Wind bands would probably not exist if it hadn't been for that particular man from Dinant. Up to the 1970's amateur marching bands were a regular feat of the summer season all over the country. That tradition has died out, but the mim pays tribute to both Sax and the wind band tradition by inviting 8 bands to perform in the heart of Europe's capital this summer.
Each band starts off at Central Station, stops for a short salute in front of the mim and then proceeds into the royal park, where they perform a concert on the very same bandstand Sax showcased his new instruments in 1864.
